Hydrology – The properties, distribution, and circulation of water on and below the earth’s surface and in the atmosphere.

The sea has neither meaning nor pity. (Anton Chekhov)

H2O.

It goes without saying that water is pretty important…not only for us has humans, but for everything else that is on our big…BLUE…planet.

It is mostly blue for a reason, and that reason is…water.

But just how important is this water?

According to Universe Today, pretty important. Here are 9 interesting facts about our big, blue planet:

1) Water makes up about 71% of the Earth’s surface.

2) 96.5% of all the Earth’s water is contained within the oceans as salt water.

3) 3.5% is freshwater lakes and frozen water locked up in glaciers and the polar ice caps.

4) Of that fresh water, almost all of it takes the form of ice: 69% of it, to be exact.

5) If you could melt all that ice, and the Earth’s surface was perfectly smooth, the sea levels would rise to an altitude of 2.7 km.

6) If you were to gather all the Earth’s fresh water together as a single mass…it is estimated that it would measure some 1,386 million cubic kilometers (km3) in volume.

7) In terms of volume, all of the water on Earth works out to about 1.386 billion cubic kilometers (km³) or 332.5 million cubic miles (mi³) of space.

8) But in terms of mass, scientists calculate that the oceans on Earth weight about 1.35 x 1018 metric tonnes (1.488 x 1018 US tons), which is the equivalent of 1.35 billion trillion kg, or 2976 trillion trillion pounds.

9) While the oceans cover 71% of the Earth’s surface, they only account for 0.02% of our planet’s total mass….

And here is a 10th fact that I find the most interesting of all regarding water:

10) Water is the only substance on earth that is lighter as a solid than as a liquid. (Ice is lighter than water.)

What are the odds of that?

And so, as I wrap up this portion of SURTSHydrology, I would ask that you consider the following…

For a book that is not intended to be a book on science, let alone hydrology, it is quite amazing, not only on the amount of science that is in there, but the validity of the references regarding hydrology, that are in there.

Based on the evidence presented, I would submit to you there is absolutely nowhere in the Bible where the hydrology topics are unfounded.  I would also submit to you that there is nowhere in the Bible where any scientific discovery since the Bible was put together, has yet to be proven false, regarding hydrology.

What is truly amazing is the fact that many of the facts above were already in the Bible before man and his science…and hydrology, ‘discovered’ them.  In multiple cases, by hundreds or thousands of years.

What other religious book has this record?

The point is this:
While the Holy Bible is of course a religious book first and foremost, clearly, it is much more than that.
