Astronomy – The study of objects and matter outside the earth’s atmosphere.

Astronomy compels the soul to look upwards and leads us from this world to another. (Plato)

As originally mentioned in my About Me page, I guess part of the reason for putting SURTSTruth together was in part, or lack thereof, of the events surrounding my trip to Wisconsin.

The ultimate goal of that trip I suppose was two-fold:

1) I was hoping to get away, literally, from life as I knew it on planet Earth, or, I suppose it could be considered 1A instead of 2, which is;

2) Wanting to know with absolute certainty, if we were, or were not, alone in the universe.

SPOLER ALERT! The 1 and 1A, (or 2), goals never happened….

I have always been intrigued with the stuff floating above and beyond our own planet. I can’t tell you where or when I became interested in that stuff, prior to my Wisconsin experience, so I will just use that experience as my starting point.

It stands to reason that that time period, around high school and right out of college, makes the most sense as a reference point regarding my interest in astronomy.

After all, I did take an astronomy course…

Twice.

The first time I took an astronomy class was as a senior in high school, in large part, as a means to an end, to get out of taking a physics class. (Not gonna lie, that was one of the most brilliant moves I have ever made in my 50 plus years in existence). The second time I took astronomy was as a sophomore at the local community college to earn a general education credit.

My interest in astronomy continues to this very day. In fact, as I am writing this, I am just a few days away from returning back to school to teach another group of students about the wonders of AP World History.

And like I do every year, I will begin the course making various references to the beginnings of humanity and, as mentioned in my Day 8 blog post, (and, ultimately, future blog posts covering material from I refer to as the Scientific Revolutions: Parts 1, 2 and 3), will ultimately bring up the concept that this whole website, (and blog), is ultimately about:

Someone. Upstairs. Runs. The. Show.

And so, as I wrap up this portion of SURTSAstronomy, I would ask that you consider the following…

For a book that is not intended to be a book on science, let alone astronomy, it is quite amazing, not only on the amount of science that is in there, but the validity of the references regarding astronomy, that are in there.

Based on the evidence presented, I would submit to you there is absolutely nowhere in the Bible where the astronomy topics are unfounded.  I would also submit to you that there is nowhere in the Bible where any scientific discovery since the Bible was put together, has yet to be proven false, regarding astronomy.

What is truly amazing is the fact that many of the facts above were already in the Bible before man and his science…and astronomy, ‘discovered’ them.  In multiple cases, by hundreds or thousands of years.

What other religious book has this record?

The point is this:
While the Holy Bible is of course a religious book first and foremost, clearly, it is much more than that.
