Anthropology – The science of human beings and their ancestors through time and space.

Anthropology – Part 2

Anthropology demands the open-mindedness with which one must look and listen, record in astonishment and wonder that which one would not have been able to guess. (Margaret Mead)

As I began the process of researching, writing and putting together SURTSAnthropology, I realized that there were almost 30 bible verses that someway…somehow…mentions directly or indirectly, items that qualify under the scientific study of anthropology.

In fact, there are so many bible verses relating to the study of anthropologySURTSAnthropology had to be divided up into 3 sections:

Anthropology – Part 1;

Anthropology – Part 2 and;

Anthropology – Part 3;

For this section of SURTSAnthropology…Anthropology – Part 2, I would ask that you consider the following…

For a book that is not intended to be a book on science, let alone anthropology, it is quite amazing, not only on the amount of science that is in there, but the validity of the references regarding anthropology, that are in there.

Based on the evidence presented, I would submit to you there is absolutely nowhere in the Bible where the anthropology topics are unfounded.  I would also submit to you that there is nowhere in the Bible where any scientific discovery since the Bible was put together, has yet to be proven false, regarding anthropology.

What is truly amazing is the fact that many of the facts above were already in the Bible before man and his science…and anthropology, ‘discovered’ them.  In multiple cases, by hundreds or thousands of years.

What other religious book has this record?

The point is this:
While the Holy Bible is of course a religious book first and foremost, clearly, it is much more than that.

I wish to thank the authors of the following website for their ideas, concepts and inspiration, for SURTSAnthropology…Anthropology – Part 2:

Anthropology – Part 2:

10. Revelation 4:1115. Romans 8:22
11. Isaiah 43:716. Romans 5:12
12. Genesis 3:1-717. Leviticus 4:2
13. 1 Timothy 2:1418. Genesis 3:16
14. Genesis 3:8-19

10. Revelation 4:11:

My soul can find no staircase to heaven unless it be through Earth’s loveliness. (Michelangelo)

For your consideration regarding the connection between anthropology and Revelation 4:11:

  1. Put quite simply, the purpose of man is for the pleasure of God, not the other way around. If one understands this then;
  2. How can humans ever feel alone and isolated again, knowing your true purpose in life?

11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (Revelation 4:11 KJV)

11. Isaiah 43:7:

It’s easy to attack and destroy an act of creation. It’s a lot more difficult to perform one. (Chuck Palahniuk)

For your consideration regarding the connection between anthropology and Isaiah 43:7:

  1. Put quite simply, the purpose of man is for the glory of God, not the other way around. If one understands this then;
  2. Glory, can be defined as, among other things: ‘praise, honor, or distinction extended by common consent’…’a height of prosperity or achievement’…and ‘great beauty and splendor’. If you believe in God, then you by default then must ultimately believe in what God thinks about you. After all, isn’t that what the ‘glory of God’ is?

Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. (Isaiah 43:7 KJV)

12. Genesis 3:1-7:

By the way, if you get mad at your Mac laptop and wonder who designed this demonic device, notice the manufacturer’s icon on top: an apple with a bite out of it. (Peter Kreeft)

For your consideration regarding the connection between anthropology and Genesis 3:1-7:

  1. It is important to note that humans have free will. If we were not given this ability, then all humans would be mindless drones, controlled entirely from our creator. Free will can be considered both a gift and a curse…a curse especially when we as humans make bad choices…Bad choices like when Adam and Eve were free to choose the one thing they could not have…That apple;
  2. There is a difference between the free will taken by Adam vs. the free will taken by Eve. Eve was deceived when she chose the apple, whereas Adam’s free will led him to willingly choose the apple. On the surface, deception vs. choice appear to be different, however, in the end, the free will of Eve and Adam are the same: those choices led to evil to enter the world and all that live in it.

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. (Genesis 3:1-7 KJV)

13. 1 Timothy 2:14:

God did create a world without sin. We just screwed it up. (Wesley Miller)

For your consideration regarding the connection between anthropology and 1 Timothy 2:14:

  1. In this verse, free will is again on full display, both a blessing and a curse…the curse in this instance being deception. And finally;
  2. Although the verse centers around who was and who was not deceived, do not lose sight of the bigger picture. The debate should not be about who ultimately was, or was not deceived. Instead consider how the gift of free will given to humanity has unintended consequences, such as deception. And it was deception which ultimately helps to explain the consequences of death.

14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. (1 Timothy 2:14 KJV)

14. Genesis 3:8-19:

A lot of people don’t believe in curses. A lot of people don’t believe in yellow-spotted lizards either, but if one bites you, it doesn’t make a difference whether you believe in it or not. (Louis Sachar)

For your consideration regarding the connection between anthropology and Genesis 3:8-19:

  1. These verses I would submit to you would all fall under the category of the curse of humanity. After reading verses 8-11 for context, the curse can be broken down in the verses that follow;
  2. Perhaps the original blame game began literally began in the beginning with 3 individuals: 1) In verse 12, the first individual Adam, is blaming his wife for his actions regarding the apple; 2) In verse 13 Eve is blaming the serpent for her actions regarding the apple and; 3) In verse 14, God blames both Adam and Eve for their actions regarding the apple. And finally;
  3. Regardless of who is to blame, the curse of humanity can be broken down into 5 components: 1) Verses 16 and 19 sorrow are evident with sorrow being written twice, regarding childbirth with women and for all, returning to the ground or death; 2) Verse 16 brings into play of marital conflict vs. originally working as a team; 3) Verses 17 and 18 speak of how the ground is now cursed; 4) Verse 19 shows how humanity must now work for what they are to earn and of course the greatest of all consequences…5) Death.

And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? 12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. 14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. 16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. 17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. (Genesis 3:8-19 KJV)

15. Romans 8:22:

Adversity is the first path to truth. (Lord Byron)

For your consideration regarding the connection between anthropology and Romans 8:22:

  1. This verse pairs nicely with Genesis 3:8-19 above regarding both the curse of humanity and how the ground is also cursed. Also of note;
  2. The last two words, ‘until now’…Humanity, despite its curse, despite all of the odds stacked against you…humanity does have hope…and thus, you have hope.

22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. (Romans 8:22 KJV)

16. Romans 5:12:

All of us make mistakes. The key is to acknowledge them, learn, and move on. The real sin is ignoring mistakes, or worse, seeking to hide them. (Robert Zoellick)

For your consideration regarding the connection between anthropology and Romans 5:12:

  1. This verse pairs nicely with Genesis 3:19, below regarding both the curse of humanity and the ultimate curse for all of humanity, death. Also of note;
  2. This death was not only assigned to Adam and Eve, but to all of their descendants.

12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (Romans 5:12 KJV)

17. Leviticus 4:2:

Ignorance is the mother of all evils. (Francois Rabelais)

For your consideration regarding the connection between anthropology and Leviticus 4:2:

  1. It matters not how one sins, whether it be knowingly or through ignorance. Sin is sin, no matter which avenue it arrives;
  2. Knowing this then is to be aware then of the curse of humanity, leading ultimately to death.

Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the Lord concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them: (Leviticus 4:2 KJV)

18. Genesis 3:16:

Having a baby is painful in order to show how serious a thing life is. (Lisa See)

For your consideration regarding the connection between anthropology and Genesis 3:16:

  1. Whether you are reading Genesis 3:16 alone or in context with Genesis 3:8-19 above, the same conclusion can be made regarding verse 16;
  2. Regardless of who is to blame, the curse of humanity is evident in two ways: 1) Sorrow regarding childbirth with women and for all, and; 2) The introduction of marital conflict vs. originally working as a team.

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. (Genesis 3:16 KJV)

And there you have it.

9 sets of bible verses found in both the Old and New Testaments, whose focus can be considered under the scientific branch of anthropology.

If one of these verses is read independently, then it is possible to assume the reader may not come to this conclusion:

While the Holy Bible is of course a religious themed book first and foremost, clearly, it is much more than that.

I would submit to you that in regards to the Holy Bible and the scientific field of anthropology…

The reliability is more than coincidence.

13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. (Psalms 139:13-14 KJV)
