Day 103: The Holy Bible And Biology – Genesis To Proverbs.

We are all connected; To each other, biologically. To the earth, chemically. To the rest of the universe atomically. (Neil deGrasse Tyson)

Thinking about the musings from Day 102: At Least 100 More…Revelation.

I would submit to you that there is universal acceptance that the Holy Bible is known primarily as a book known for its religious texts, instructions, poetry, prophecies and stories. I would further submit to you that in addition to all of that, the Holy Bible has quite a bit to say about eight branches of science.

In Day 102: At Least 100 More…Revelation., is posed a simple question:

Are there any other fields of science that are referenced over 100 times in the Holy Bible?

The short answer is yes.

Today and for the next several blog entries, we will answer that question….

The scientific field of biology is another scientific branch of science that is referenced well over 100 times in the Holy Bible.

I would submit to you that before we begin our research, it is important that we begin the next scientific field of science, biology, with a definition that can be agreed upon.

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, the definition of biology is as follows:

The science of life and of living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and distribution and encompassing numerous fields such as botany, zoology, mycology, and microbiology.

https://www.ahdictionary.com/word/search.html?q=biology

Whew! That is a lot for a definition.

I think that in order to keep it simple for us going forward, we should consider the following for our definition of biology:

The science of life and living organisms.

Now that we have a reasonable working definition of the scientific field of biology, let’s begin to discover the bible verses that qualify under the definition for the scientific field of biology.

From Genesis, Leviticus, and Proverbs:

1. Genesis 1:11-12 KJV:

11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

2. Genesis 1:21 KJV:

21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

3. Genesis 1:25 KJV:

25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

4. Genesis 2:7 KJV:

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

5. Genesis 3:19 KJV:

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

6. Leviticus 17:11 KJV:

11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

7. Proverbs 12:4 KJV:

A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

8. Proverbs 14:30 KJV:

30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

9. Proverbs 15:30 KJV:

30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.

10. Proverbs 16:24 KJV:

24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

11. Proverbs 17:22 KJV:

22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

And there you have it.

So, right now, there are 12 bible verses, who by definition, qualify under the scientific branch of biology.

What are the next set of bible verses relating to the scientific field of biology?

They will be covered next time.

Do not feel discouraged if you do not see a connection with the 12 sets of verses from the Holy Bible that relate to the scientific field of biology. Do not feel discouraged if you are still unsure that the verses from the books of Genesis, Leviticus and Proverbs contain any scientific relevance at all. Instead, understand that after you have read these verses, you have begun the process of learning about the relationship between the scientific field of biology and the Holy Bible…perhaps without even realizing it.

22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. (Proverbs 17:22 KJV)

Was today’s blog a little confusing at times? Was the content perhaps a little overwhelming? Did you feel lost not understanding some or most of the subject matter?

Those feelings are totally understandable and it is ok to have one or more of those feelings. Remember that you are reading Day 103: The Holy Bible And Biology – Genesis To Proverbs.

The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the less taste we shall have for destruction. (Rachel Carson)

Thinking about the musings from Day 101: At Least 100 More…Matthew To Acts.

I would submit to you that as you continue to read books in the Holy Bible, the relevance of the scientific field of astronomy still continues to be found. I would further submit to you that this evidence continues through the Book of Revelation, the last book of the Holy Bible.

It is now time to move on to the last book in the New Testament…

Revelation.

Now, let’s conclude our reading with the Book of Revelation.

1. Revelation 6:12-14

12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. (Revelation 6:12-14 KJV)

2. Revelation 8:10-12

10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; 11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter. 12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise. (Revelation 8:10-12 KJV)

3. Revelation 9:1-2

And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. (Revelation 9:1-2 KJV)

4. Revelation 10:1

And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: (Revelation 10:1 KJV)

7. Revelation 12:4

And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. (Revelation 12:4 KJV)

8. Revelation 13:13

10. Revelation 19:11-14

11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. (Revelation 19:11-14 KJV)

11. Revelation 21:1-5

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. (Revelation 21:1-5 KJV)

12. Revelation 21:21-25

21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. 22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. 24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. 25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. (Revelation 21:21-25 KJV)

In the Book of Revelation, there are 28 references that are some way…some how…related to the scientific field of astronomy.

If my math is correct, that means that in the Holy Bible, there are a total of 164 bible verses that are to the scientific field of astronomy.

Not bad for a book that is known for its religious texts, instructions, poetry, prophecies and stories.

Perhaps it would be just an anomaly if only one scientific field was referenced over 100 times in the Holy Bible.

Are there any other fields of science that are referenced over 100 times in the Holy Bible?

Yes.

What field of science and how many times?

The first field of science will be covered next time.

Do not feel discouraged if you do not see a connection with the 164 sets of verses from the Holy Bible that relate to the scientific field of astronomy. Do not feel discouraged if you are still unsure that the verses from the Book of Revelation contain any scientific relevance at all. Instead, understand that after you have read these verses, you have learned quite a bit about the scientific field of astronomy…perhaps without even realizing it.

Astronomy? Impossible to understand and madness to investigate. (Sophocles)

Thinking about the musings from Day 98: Rest…Relax…Reflect.

I would submit to you that when you take the time to dig deeper into the Holy Bible, the more references relating to the scientific field of astronomy you will dig up. I would further submit to you that the evidence is indeed plentiful and consistent throughout the Holy Bible.

2. Psalm 19:1-6:

1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. (Psalm 19:1-6 KJV)

8. Psalm 96:5:

For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens. (Psalm 96:5 KJV)

9. Psalm 102:25-27:

25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. 26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: 27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end. (Psalm 102:25-27 KJV)

13. Psalm 136:5-9:

To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever: The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever: The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever. 18. Isaiah 8:19

What is the next set of these verses relating to the scientific field of astronomy?

They will be covered next time.

Day 1: What Is A Mid-Life Crisis?

Day 98: Rest…Relax…Reflect.

Relax, Recharge and Reflect. Sometimes it’s OK to do nothing. (Izey Victoria Odiase)

Thinking about the musings from Day 97: At Least 100 More…Part 1....

I would submit to you that it is important to take some rest.

Just like the 14th week winding down at school, week 14 is winding down here.  I end with the quote: “I will give you Sunday’s off, it’s a God thing….”

The more I think about it, I don’t really know if it is really just a ‘God thing’. I mean, don’t animals, insects, birds, plants, the rest of Mother Nature and even Atheists, believe in the importance of rest? Whether they think it’s a ‘God thing’ or not, rest is necessary for all of us on this Earth, to restore, and to rejuvenate, our hearts, minds, bodies and souls. I think, most importantly, because Monday’s can be brutal, on a good Monday….

Bottom line no matter where you stand on the issue of God…get some rest.

Spend some time if you want to do some reviewing, reflecting, and/or meditating, on the week that has just ended. To be mindful perhaps of the from last week:

Day 92: How Sharp Was…And Is…Ockham’s Razor? – William of Ockham spoke on at least 9 different occasions about how the simplest way of going about things is usually the correct way. When applying Ockham’s Razor to Genesis 1:1, its simplicity speaks for itself;

Day 93: It Is As Easy As…The Flip Of A Switch. – The idea of applying William of Ockham’s: “No more things should be presumed to exist than are absolutely necessary.” to Genesis 1:3, it really is easy to understand how the universe began, by flipping a switch. The question you must ask yourself next is…who exactly flipped the switch?;

Day 94: It Is As Easy As…31 Switches? – The relationship between the scientific study of astronomy and 5 more verses from the book of Genesis are covered here. After reviewing these verses it is easy to see how important the scientific field of astronomy is in the book of Genesis;

Day 95: It Is As Easy As…Getting To The Halfway Point. – The continuation of the relationship between the scientific field of astronomy and the verses from Genesis 1:8-17 are reviewed. Without question, the consistency continues;

Day 96: It Is As Easy As…Conclusion. – The final verses from the book of Genesis, 1:18-31, and their relationship with the scientific field of astronomy are concluded here. There is a strong case to be made that 31 of 31 verses all directly relate to the scientific field of astronomy;

Day 97: At Least 100 More…Part 1. – To assume that the first book of Genesis in the Holy Bible is the only book that references items from the scientific field of astronomy is a wrong assumption. In fact, the first 20 of over 100 more verses in the holy bible are covered here.

Are you ready to get some rest?

Do not feel discouraged if you don’t know how to rest. Do not feel discouraged if you power down your mind and body that wishes to forge ahead, so many things to do, so little time. Instead, embrace the idea that rest is rejuvenating. Embrace the idea that rest restores and recharges.  10-15 minutes. Do nothing regarding the upcoming workweek…for 10-15 minutes.  Then, 7 days later, extent your rest time out 5 minutes.  Deep breathing exercises. Simple yoga poses. Watching cute little puppies on your social media feed. All unrelated to work and your job(s). Something, some things, to clear your mind.

And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest. (Psalm 55:6 KJV)

Do you think the universe fights for souls to be together? Some things are too strange and strong to be a coincidence. (Emery Allen)

Thinking about the musings from Day 96: It Is As Easy As…Conclusion.

I would submit to you that if you believed that only the book of Genesis had references to the scientific field of astronomy, you would be incorrect. I would further submit to you that the scientific field of astronomy is consistently brought up in multiple books throughout the Holy Bible.

In the interest of both space and time, I believe that it would be best if I were to continue on in the following format:

First, I am presenting the definition of astronomy, according to thefreedictionary.com here:

“The scientific study of matter and phenomena in the universe, especially in outer space, including the positions, dimensions, distribution, motion, composition, energy, and evolution of celestial objects.”

https://www.thefreedictionary.com/astronomy

Second, I will present the bible verses that qualify under the definition of astronomy.

Finally, after reading these verses, hopefully you will come to the same conclusion that I have:

The Holy Bible is abundantly clear in presenting dozens of verses that helps humanity to better understand the: “matter and phenomena in the universe…”

Let’s begin with the first verse outside of Genesis 1…

1) Genesis 2:1:

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. (Genesis 2:1 KJV)

2) Genesis 15:5:

And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. (Genesis 15:5 KJV)

3) Genesis 22:17:

1That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; (Genesis 22:17 KJV)

4) Deuteronomy 4:19:

19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven. (Deuteronomy 4:19 KJV)

5) Deuteronomy 10:14:

14 Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the Lord’s thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is. (Deuteronomy 10:14 KJV)

6) Deuteronomy 33:14:

14 And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon, (Deuteronomy 33:14 KJV)

7) Joshua 10:13:

13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. (Joshua 10:13 KJV)

8) Judges 5:20:

20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera. (Judges 5:20 KJV)

9) 2 Kings 23:5:

And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven. (2 Kings 23:5 KJV)

10) 1 Chronicles 16:26:

26 For all the gods of the people are idols: but the Lord made the heavens. (1 Chronicles 16:26 KJV)

11) Nehemiah 9:6:

Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee. (Nehemiah 9:6 KJV)

12) Job 9:6-9:

Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble. Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars. Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea. Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south. (Job 9:6-9 KJV)

13) Job 22:12:

12 Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are! (Job 22:12 KJV)

14) Job 25:5:

Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight. (Job 25:5 KJV)

15) Job 26:7:

He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing. (Job 26:7 KJV)

16) Job 26:9:

He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it. (Job 26:9 KJV)

17) Job 26:13:

13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent. (Job 26:13 KJV)

18) Job 37:18:

18 Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass? (Job 37:18 KJV)

19) Job 38:7:

When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? (Job 38:7 KJV)

20) Job 38:31-33:

31 Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? 32 Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons? 33 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth? (Job 38:31-33 KJV)

Whew!

Did you see all of the references to the scientific study of astronomy in those 25 references from Genesis 2:1 through Job 38:31-33?

Wait a minute…The numbers do not appear to add up.

Why is it that the numbering of the verses only goes from 1 to 20, yet I mentioned 25 verses at the end?

That is because, for Job 38:31-33 for instance, 3 verses are actually covered: 31, 32 and 33.

There are still dozens of verses left relating to the scientific study of astronomy still remaining in the Holy Bible.

What are some more of these verses?

That will be covered after some rest.

Do not feel discouraged if you do not see a connection with the 25 verses from the Holy Bible that relate to the scientific field of astronomy. Do not feel discouraged if you are still unsure that these additional verses from the Holy Bible contain any scientific relevance at all. Instead, understand that after you continue to read these verses, you continue to gain the knowledge necessary in understanding the universe.

Day 1: What Is A Mid-Life Crisis?

Day 96: It Is As Easy As…Conclusion.

I am totally safe in the Universe. I am at peace everywhere. I trust life. (Louis Hay)

Thinking about the musings from Day 95: It Is As Easy As…Getting To The Halfway Point.

I would submit to you that Genesis, the first book in the Holy Bible, is filled with evidence relating to the scientific field of astronomy. I would further submit to you that after reading the book of Genesis, the scientific field of astronomy is very evident.

In Day 90: Does Anyone Know What Astronomy Is?, I began with Genesis 1:1 in the Holy Bible and how it relates to the scientific field of astronomy.

In Day 93: It Is As Easy As…The Flip Of A Switch., I continued with Genesis 1:3 in the Holy Bible and how it relates to the scientific field of astronomy.

In Day 94: It Is As Easy As…31 Switches?, I followed up with Genesis 1:2, 4-7 in the Holy Bible and how they relate to the scientific field of astronomy.

And in Day 95: It Is As Easy As…Getting To The Halfway Point., I presented verses in Genesis 1:8-17 and how they relate to the scientific field of astronomy.

Now, let’s continue our journey throughout the rest of the first book of Genesis.

18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. (Genesis 1:18-19 KJV)

Without question, the sun and the moon provide light in both the day and night for humanity, but at the same time someone put them there ultimately for our benefit. In addition, they were intentionally created, which begs the question…

If the sun and the moon were intentionally created, who created them?

20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. (Genesis 1:20 KJV)

The idea of, ‘the open firmament of heaven’ above the earth being completely void of life, would make planet Earth a very boring place indeed. The question that needs to be asked here is:

Who would have known that by adding, ‘fowl that may fly above the earth’, would have made the sky above us that much more interesting?

21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:21 KJV)

Now that planet Earth has pretty much all it needs: sun…moon…dry and water, the next logical step would be to fill the planet up with stuff like: ‘great whales…every living creature that moveth,…(and) every winged fowl…’.

22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. (Genesis 1:22-23 KJV)

While the universe is experiencing its fifth day, on planet Earth the creatures have been given the ability to multiply. Now, the creatures under the earth, in the waters, on land, and it the sky, all can reproduce…to create an amazing diversity here, just like the diversity that is to be found all across the universe.

24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. (Genesis 1:24 KJV)

There is a case to be made at this point that the universe is truly filled with all of its wonders, both out in the far reaching stars beyond count, to here, on planet Earth.

25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:25 KJV)

Like a blurry object coming into focus, a lot has happened in the universe in just 5 days: The formation of heaven and earth…earth that was formless to now that is formed…light and darkness…waters above and below, (sky and oceans and seas)…the formation of land…the land now with grass and seeds and fruit trees…the sun and the moon…and now filling up planet earth with creatures.

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:26 KJV)

Who or what will provide the following as stewards here on planet Earth: language, morality, personality, purpose, and reason?

The answer is…us. Once you think about it, we has humans have a great responsibility and purpose here on planet Earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. (Genesis 1:27 KJV)

I would submit to you that all humans have intrinsic value. This is not to be taken lightly.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:28 KJV)

It appears that humans have 4 things that they are to be responsible for here on Earth: 1) Be fruitful; 2) Multiply; 3) Spread out and populate the earth and; 4) Have dominion/authority/management, over all the other creatures.

29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. (Genesis 1:29 KJV)

When reading Verse 29, it is interesting to note there is no mention of fish or fowl or cattle or crawling things that humans are to eat as meat. Perhaps there is a case to be made that humans were originally designed to be vegan?

And if this were to be true, what happened on planet Earth that led to humans, and some animals to eat meat?

30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. (Genesis 1:30 KJV)

I would submit to you that it appears on the surface that all on planet Earth are to co-existence in peaceful harmony.

And if that were to be true, what happened to that peaceful co-existence, on planet Earth?

31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31 KJV)

I would submit to you that as Genesis 1 comes to a close, the following conclusions can be made: The: speaking, creating, observing and the final declaration that all of it is not just so…not just good…

But very good.

When then, did all of that change?

Before that question can be answered, there are still at least 100 more verses relating to the scientific branch of astronomy still remaining in the Holy Bible.

What are these verses?

That will be covered next time…

Do not feel discouraged if you do not see a connection with Genesis 1 and the connection with the scientific field of astronomy. Do not feel discouraged if you are still unsure that the Holy Bible contains any scientific relevance at all. Instead, understand that after reading the first chapter of Genesis, you have acquired much knowledge in helping you to better understand the universe.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, (Genesis 1:16-17 KJV).

Day 95: It Is As Easy As…Getting To The Halfway Point.

I have a naive trust in the universe – that at some level it all makes sense, and we can get glimpses of that sense if we try. (Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi)

Thinking about the musings from Day 94: It Is As Easy As…31 Switches?

I would submit to you that the Holy Bible, is filled with evidence relating to the scientific field of astronomy. I would further submit to you that there is a case to be made that the more one continues to read through the book of Genesis, the more that the scientific field of astronomy becomes evident.

In Day 90: Does Anyone Know What Astronomy Is?, I began with the first verse of the Holy Bible and how it relates to the scientific field of astronomy:

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1:1 KJV).

In Day 93: It Is As Easy As…The Flip Of A Switch., I continued with the third verse of the Holy Bible and how it relates to the scientific field of astronomy:

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. (Genesis 1:3 KJV)

And in Day 94: It Is As Easy As…31 Switches?, 5 more verses from Genesis were presented showing the connection to the scientific field of astronomy:

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters…And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. (Genesis 1:2, 4-7 KJV).

To assume that the connection between Genesis 1 and the scientific field of astronomy ends here would be folly indeed.

Let’s continue with where we left off in Genesis 1….

And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. (Genesis 1:8 KJV).

I would submit to you that humanity has been aware that the concept of ‘Heaven’, although called by many different names by many different religions and cultures, is geographically up…in the sky, or firmament.

9-10 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:9-10 KJV).

It appears, that the universe, or at least the happenings on planet Earth, are getting a little less vague and a little more detailed as on planet Earth, dry land can be seen separate from the waters. I would further submit to you that the reality regarding the world’s 4 oceans: Arctic, Atlantic, Indian and Pacific, is pretty amazing. They are ultimately all connected to each other, or I guess you could say, ‘gathered together unto one place.’

13 And the evening and the morning were the third day. (Genesis 1:11-13 KJV).

I would submit to you that while you are reading this set of verses, ask yourself the following question:

Who or what, put the tree there on the land on planet Earth, in the first place?

Remember that according to William of Ockham, the simplest…tends to be right.

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. (Genesis 1:14-15).

Consider the following analogy…

If you stand in a room with lots of windows during the day, and go to turn that light switch on, after say, walking past a table to get to the light switch, consider what you just did, only a more grand scale. To you it appears that you just turned on a light, in your room, just past the table. Think bigger though…think about this:

The room represents…the universe.

The light switch represents…the sun.

The table represents…planet Earth.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, (Genesis 1:16-17 KJV).

I would submit to you that the significance of how verse 16 is written was very intentional indeed: The greater light (sun), rules the day…while the lesser light (moon), rules the night. Verse 16 eliminates the need for humans to continue to worship the sun and moon as gods simply because they were created by someone or something greater than them. The someone or something greater than the sun and the moon is quickly answered in Verse 17…This verse provides compelling evidence as to why worshipping the sun and the moon as gods are no longer necessary for humanity.

And just like that, we have passed the halfway mark showing the relationship between verses 1-17 in the Book of Genesis and the scientific field of astronomy.

What about the remaining verses in the first book of Genesis?

How do they relate to the scientific field of astronomy?

I will continue with those verses next time…

Do not feel discouraged if you do not see a connection with Genesis 1:1-17 and the connection with the scientific field of astronomy. Do not feel discouraged if you still cannot see how these additional verses from the Holy Bible relate back to the scientific field of astronomy. Instead, understand that after reading the first half of the Book of Genesis, you continue to accumulate more evidence to help you to better understand the universe.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, (Genesis 1:16-17 KJV).

Was today’s blog a little confusing at times? Was the content perhaps a little overwhelming? Did you feel lost not understanding some or most of the subject matter?

Those feelings are totally understandable and it is ok to have one or more of those feelings. Remember that you are reading Day 95: It Is As Easy As…Getting To The Halfway Point.

If you haven’t been in class since the first day of school…or when the project began…or when the contract was first signed, etc., these feelings make perfect and logistical sense.

Please feel free to go back to where all of this began:

Day 1: What Is A Mid-Life Crisis?

Day 94: It Is As Easy As…31 Switches?

There are no extra pieces in the universe. Everyone is here because he or she has a place to fill, and every piece must fit itself into the big jigsaw puzzle. (Deepak Chopra)

Thinking about the musings from Day 93: It Is As Easy As…The Flip Of A Switch.

I would submit to you that as a general rule, when someone thinks about the Holy Bible, the last thing that comes to mind would be anything relating to the scientific field of astronomy. I would further submit to you that not only is the scientific field of astronomy addressed in the first verse of the Holy Bible, there are many more verses that address it as well.

At least 120 more verses.

For example, as I already covered in DAY 92: How Sharp Was…And Is…Ockham’s Razor? and Day 93: It Is As Easy As…The Flip Of A Switch., there is evidence contained in both Genesis 1:1 and 1:3 that directly relates to the scientific field of astronomy.

Now, I know a possible question that you may have…

Why did I skip Genesis 1:2?

Good question…

As I explained in DAY 89: The Science…Can It Be Settled…Once And For All?, the Holy Bible is above all a book that: “contains instructions, stories, poetry, and prophecies respected and considered sacred by followers of Judaism and Christianity as well as many other religions.”

Notice that the scientific field of astronomy is not mentioned at all there.

However, there is a strong case that the scientific field of astronomy is in fact not only covered in the first book of the Holy Bible, Genesis, it is fact covered in every single verse in the first chapter.

100% covered?

Yes.

Consider Genesis 1:2:

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:2 KJV)

The next time you think about it, go outside when it is a cloudless night. Look up into the vastness of the universe all around you. Doesn’t it appear out there, at least in some parts of the universe, that there is some formlessness, void and some darkness up there?

If any of that is true then…

Why would it be such a far stretch to believe that the formlessness, void and some darkness, could also have been possible, before you or I, were born?

I would submit to you that in fact, the universe does in fact have much formlessness, void and darkness…then and now.

Consider Genesis 1:4:

And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. (Genesis 1:4 KJV)

I would submit to you that without question, light is good. I mean, think about it…are you more awake or more sleepy…when the sun is out?

I mean, after all, what have humans done for thousands of years, once the sun goes down?

Sleep.

Isn’t having easy access to a light switch good…especially once the sun goes down at night, and you have a task to complete before the morning comes?

In the kitchen…or the garage…or at work?

Can’t we all agree that humanity has forever, literally, benefitted from the sunlight and more recently, electricity and the light bulb?

I would submit to you that the universe is helping humanity to keep track of when to be up, and when to sleep.

Consider Genesis 1:5:

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. (Genesis 1:5 KJV)

So, the sun comes up, and it is light. That is what we call day.

And then, the sun goes down, nowhere to be seen. At that point it is night.

It appears that a day has just passed in our lifetime.

I would submit to you that the universe is helping humanity to keep track of our time here on Earth.

Consider Genesis 1:6-7:

And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. (Genesis 1:6-7 KJV)

I would submit to you that no matter what version of the Holy Bible you look into, (or secular books as well), they all refer to the firmament as one, or more, of the following:

Expanse, space, huge space, horizon, dome, vault, and canopy.

In the end, aren’t all of the words ultimately synonyms of firmament?

Are they all not a means to end, to tell someone the difference between the water on Earth and the sky above?

Consider the reference to water. Isn’t water on Earth, clean water of course…blue?

When you look up at the sky on a clear day, isn’t it also…blue?

If both the water and the sky are blue…yet the water on Earth does not exactly look like the sky above, or the other way around, how else would you explain it?

In fact, how would you explain the blue water on Earth and the blue sky above to say, a 4 year old?

How would you explain the differences to someone without access to technology like: cameras, planes, radar, rockets, satellites or telescopes?

I would submit to you that these verses help us to understand why we have our oceans, lakes, and rivers, and a sky above us all.

Did you know that there are 31 verses in Genesis 1?

Did you know that there is a strong case to be made that all of those 31 verses all one way or another, address the scientific field of astronomy?

What are the odds of that?

What about the rest of the verses in Genesis 1 and their relationship to the scientific field of astronomy?

I will continue with more verses next time…

Do not feel discouraged if you do not see a connection with Genesis 1:1-7 and the connection with the scientific field of astronomy. Do not feel discouraged if you still cannot see how it is possible to have even more verses from the Holy Bible relate back to the scientific field of astronomy. Instead, understand that after reading Genesis 1:1-7, you are continuing the journey to help you to not only better understand the universe, but your place in it.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (Genesis 1:2 KJV)
