Day 172: Going Backwards With 1 Or With 2?

I would submit to you that while on the surface, it may appear that the science may be settled here on our planet, however, when one digs deeper, perhaps it is not settled at all. I would further submit to you that like an onion, the field of science may appear settled on the top layer, but, if one continues to peel, it leads to further investigation, eventually leading to the truth.

There is a case to be made that when dealing with science related issues, the questions you need to ask yourself are these:

1) When the science is telling you that ‘it’ is settled, (the ‘it’ in this case being: the change from a Ptolemaic, Earth centered universe, to a sun centered, Heliocentric universe), are you then satisfied with their scientific conclusions, and move on with your life?

2) If you are not satisfied with these new scientific conclusions, how far are you willing to continue to peel away at the new science, that they claimed was already settled?

In my classes, before covering the Scientific Revolution, there was an equally impressive series of events that needed to be taught as well. May historians would argue that these series of events not only rivaled the Scientific Revolution in historical significance, but they are even more revolutionary:

The Maritime Revolution, or the European Age of Discovery.

While most people may remember that in 1492, it was Christopher Columbus that sailed the ocean blue, what many may not know is who gave the go ahead to fund this historic expedition.

It was not King Ferdinand of Spain who financially backed Columbus, but rather his wife, Queen Isabella, who made the decision to approve the momentous voyage.

What even fewer people are aware of is the fact that it was not Queen Isabella’s Spain who started the European Age of Discovery, but rather their Iberian Peninsula neighbor, Portugal. Led by Prince Henry the Navigator in 1419 with his navigation school, it was just over a century later when Portugal was joined by 4 other empires: Spain, Dutch, French and British, who were all sailing boats in the Atlantic Ocean.

All competing for the same ‘God, Gold and Glory’, these 5 empires main focus was establishing and growing their colonies in the New World.

While there is no doubt as to the significance of Prince Henry who started it, and Columbus who kicked it, (or…sailed it?), to the next level, I believe that there is a case to be made that there is another figure during the Maritime Revolution / European Age of Discovery, whose name must be considered when discussing the historical impacts of Columbus and Prince Henry the Navigator:

Ferdinand Magellan of Spain.

From 1519 to 1522, the crew of Ferdinand Magellan ultimately circumnavigated the earth, beginning in and eventually ending back in Spain. (Magellan was killed in the islands of what will eventually be known as the Philippines in April of 1521):

I would submit to you that there are 3 reasons why Magellan, (and his crew), are to be considered among the most important individuals during the Maritime Revolution / European Age of Discovery:

1) Magellan’s crew confirmed the international date line. (The calendar on their ship was a day off from the calendars back in Spain.);

2) Magellan’s crew were the first Europeans to discover the largest ocean in the world, the Pacific, confirming that the earth was much larger than originally thought, and most importantly;

3) Magellan’s crew were the first to circumnavigate the globe, proving that the earth was a sphere and not flat.

At least, that is what we were taught to believe.

One of the last pieces of evidence that I would present to my students for almost 2 decades to help them truly understand the significance of the voyage of Ferdinand Magellan and crew, was to show, read, and discuss the following bible verse:

²²It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: (Isaiah 40:22 KJV)

I would have the student who found this bible verse first in class read it twice, the second time, much slower than the first…And then stopping at the first comma:

“It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth…”

It is at this point, where I would explain to the class that this verse in the Book of Isaiah and the voyage of Ferdinand Magellan and crew, are proving the same thing:

That planet Earth is a…sphere.

After completing this exercise with my students, I would move onto the next set of people, places and things that they would need to know for their next unit exam.

Not once, in 18 years of teaching this material covering the European Age of Discovery / Maritime Revolution, was I even questioned about the impacts of Ferdinand Magellan and his crew.

Not once, in 18 years of teaching this material covering the European Age of Discovery / Maritime Revolution, was I ever questioned about the words contained in Isaiah 40:22 before the first comma either:

“It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth…”

And so, I never thought twice about it.

Until recently, when I came across this bible verse during a bible study session with a high school friend of mine:

¹⁸He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord’s house. (Isaiah 22:18 KJV)

Here again is what I used in class to prove that the Earth is a sphere for almost 2 decades:

So the question that needs to be asked is this:

Do both bible verses from the Book of Isaiah come to the same conclusions regarding the shape of the Earth?

That question will be answered next time.

I would submit to you that after covering over 1200 bible verses, relating to 8 different scientific fields, there are still questions that need to be asked. I would further submit to you that even if you were to answer these new questions that come up, there will most likely be even more questions that eventually will need to be answered down the road.

For now, let’s focus on the present.

Without question, science is definitely an important topic throughout the Holy Bible. This evidence has been covered in depth in prior posts:

After spending the time reviewing these 8 scientific branches of science covered in over 1200 verses throughout the Holy Bible, it would appear on the surface that the science is indeed…

Settled.

However, what if the science is not in fact settled?

What then?

Back in my teaching days, I would spend at least a class period going into great depth and detail covering the Scientific Revolution.

In fact, I have already covered the Scientific Revolution in earlier posts here as well:

Day 68: The Scientific Revolution – Part 1 – Ptolemy And The Catholic Church. and;

Day 69: The Scientific Revolution – Part 1 – Copernicus To Newton.

One of the main takeaways that I wanted students to understand after covering the Scientific Revolution was to prove that:

Part A – All humans are flawed;

Part B – All science is created by humans;

Part C – Therefore, all science is flawed.

A second main takeaway that I wanted students to understand after covering the Scientific Revolution was to prove that:

The concepts, observations and conclusions brought forth by:

Nicolaus Copernicus; Poland; (1473 – 1543), Tycho Brahe; Denmark; (1546 – 1601), Johannes Kepler; present day Germany; (1571 – 1630), Galileo Galilei; Italy; (1564 – 1642), and Isaac Newton; England (1643 – 1727), proved that Ptolemy’s Geocentric, Earth-centered view of the universe…

Was wrong.

However, what if Ptolemy was in fact right all along?

What if there are at least 2 verses in the Holy Bible that contradict all of the data-collecting, math, and science, brought forth by these men from 1473-1727?

What if 1 of these 2 bible verses was to be found in at least one of the 8 scientific fields of: astronomy, biology, anthropology, geology, hydrology, meteorology, paleontology, and physics, already covered?

Could this 1 bible verse be the beginning of ultimately leading us to the following conclusion of:

Maybe the science is not settled after all?

So, what is this 1 bible verse already covered scientifically, and its companion bible verse not already covered?

That question will be answered next time.

Do not feel discouraged if after over 1200 bible verses, you are left confused by the idea that the science may not be settled. Do not feel discouraged if there may be only 1 bible verse that contradicts the science in the first place. Instead, understand that after continuing the process of reading these bible verses, you are opening more doors that may in fact help you to understand all of this science after all.

I would submit to you that there is a group of individuals known as psychics in the Holy Bible. I would further submit to you that these individuals are all viewed with consistency throughout the Holy Bible as well.

In Day 169: Oh…Psychics, Not Physics – Part 1., 16 bible verses were covered that are contained in the books of Exodus to Isaiah.

So now, let us conclude with 23 bible verses that relate to psychics, that can be found in the books of Daniel to Revelation:

1. Daniel 1:20 KJV:

²⁰And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

2. Daniel 4:7 KJV:

⁷Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.

3. Daniel 5:11 KJV:

¹¹There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;

So, at final count, there are 39 bible verses, who by definition, qualify under a group of people known throughout history as psychics, not the scientific field of physics.

Are there a couple of verses that I may have missed?

Possibly.

However, whether I found them all or maybe missed a couple, what is clear is that you cannot deny the fact that there is a strong connection between the Holy Bible and the psychics.

So a question to ask is this:

After reading these verses from the Holy Bible, are psychics individuals that should be relied upon to assist us with our struggles and should they be sought out to answer our questions that we ourselves cannot answer?

After pondering that question, a second question has to be this:

After covering 7th scientific branches: astronomy, biology, anthropology, geology, hydrology, meteorology, paleontology, and now physics, and also covering verses relating to a group known as psychics, what comes next?

Sometimes, you have to go backwards before you can go forwards.

Do not feel discouraged if you do not see a connection with the 23 sets of verses from today from the Holy Bible that relate to psychics, not physics. Do not feel discouraged if you are still unsure that the verses contained in these bible verses contain any relevance at all. Instead, understand that after you have read these verses, you may have come to an interesting conclusion… That psychics are an important group that can be found in the Holy Bible.

I would submit to you that once you understand what the definition of physics is, it is easy to spot references to this scientific field in the Holy Bible. I would further submit to you that you also need to pay careful attention to the spelling of the word physics, as it looks very similar to another word:

Psychics.

As I was finishing up: Day 167: The Holy Bible And Physics – You Matter: Revelation To…Revelation., I realized that I needed to go back and do some editing at the end of the post.

Not thinking about the obvious fact that the Book of Revelation is the last book in the Holy Bible, I started getting this post going, with the assumption that I would just be continuing on with more verses that related to the scientific field of physics.

I was wrong.

The reason was simple…I wasn’t looking hard enough at these two words:

Physics and psychics.

Not only are physics and psychics not spelled the same…and not only do they have different definitions…the bible verses relating to psychics are definitely ones that need to be brought to our attention…and not because they have anything to do with any field of science.

As you read through these verses, maybe you will get a sense like I did that although psychics are mentioned quite a few times in many books throughout the Holy Bible….

Is that really a good thing?

Consider the first 16 verses that I found relating to psychics from the Books of Exodus to Isaiah:

1. Exodus 22:18 KJV:

¹⁸Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

2. Leviticus 19:31 KJV:

³¹Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.

3. Leviticus 20:6 KJV:

⁶And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.

4. Leviticus 20:27 KJV:

²⁷A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.

5. Deuteronomy 4:19 KJV:

¹⁰There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. ¹¹Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

6. Deuteronomy 18:10-11 KJV:

¹⁹And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

²³For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

³Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.

10. 2 Kings 21:6 KJV:

⁹And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?

11. 2 Kings 23:24 KJV:

⁶And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.

12. 1 Chronicles 10:13-14 KJV:

²⁴Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the Lord.

13. 2 Chronicles 33:6 KJV:

¹³So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the Lord, even against the word of the Lord, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; ¹⁴And enquired not of the Lord: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

14. Isaiah 8:19 KJV:

⁶And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.

And there you have it.

16 bible verses found in books of Exodus to Isaiah, whose focus are not under the scientific branch of physics, but relate to a group throughout history known as psychics.

So, what are the next set of bible verses relating to these psychics?

I would submit to you that it is important to take some rest.

I would submit to you, that if you have not already done so, start today to rest…and relax…and reflect. I would submit to you to perhaps begin the process to:

“Take Sunday’s off, it’s a God thing.”

The more I think about it, I don’t really know if it is really just a ‘God thing’. I mean, don’t animals, insects, birds, plants, the rest of Mother Nature and even Atheists, believe in the importance of rest? Whether they think it’s a ‘God thing’ or not, rest is necessary for all of us on this Earth, to restore, and to rejuvenate, our hearts, minds, bodies and souls. I think, most importantly, because Monday’s can be brutal, on a good Monday….

Bottom line no matter where you stand on the issue of God…get some rest.

Spend some time if you want to do some reviewing, reflecting, and/or meditating, on the week that has just ended. To be mindful perhaps of the from last week:
